A Just 'Cause -- a charity affair

“One person can make a difference, and everyone should try,”  John F Kennedy.

The culture at 5th Avenue is not designed to simply ‘keep people entertained in the comfort of their own home," but to inspire healthy, active lifestyles and vibrant community interaction. The 1st Annual "A Just 'Cause" hosted by 5th Avenue is designed to give all Sequim residents an opportunity to gather and make a difference – whether you sign up as a volunteer, have lunch, or spend $1 to $100.   The event was inspired by a call from a local PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) group looking for a fundraising venue. When a women’s clothing shop closed, racks of clothes and accessories were donated to the PEO FY chapter. They were looking for a venue from which to sell them – and the idea for A Just 'Cause was born.  All local nonprofits are invited to set up tents throughout our parking lots on Saturday, June 24th for a 1-stop-shop-garage sale  where visitors can shop, eat, gather information, get their car washed, have fun, and most importantly, make a difference in our community immediately and locally.   Other ways to make a difference:

  • Eat lunch at SACKS! Plan to enjoy your lunch either Friday June 23rd or Saturday the 24th in our restaurant SACKS, and 10% of all the day’s proceeds will be donated to participating nonprofits.
  • Purchase a raffle ticket! Raffle tickets can be purchased at our Concierge Desk, and proceeds from each ticket will be given to the participating non-profit of your choice. Have your entire passport signed as you visit each vendor and you will receive an additional five raffle tickets. Winner will receive 1 YEAR FREE MEMBERSHIP AT SEQUIM YMCA! (5th Avenue residents with YMCA memberships will instead be eligible for 2 guest dinner tickets per month for 1 year.)

As we move through different chapters of life, we often have the opportunity to identify a new sense of purpose. A common factor among some of the healthiest and longest living cultures, Okinawans call it “Ikigai” and the Nicoyans call it “plan de vida;” for both it translates to “why I wake up in the morning.”  Supporting a local cause can provide a sense of purpose, as well as limit isolation. Additionally, whatever population it serves or what causes it advocates, your nonprofit needs strong roots in its local community in order to thrive.  Come out to 5th Avenue on Saturday, June 24th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and participate in A Just 'Cause!500 W.
